New police app breaks down Toronto crime stats by neighbourhood
A new app, launched by Toronto police on Wednesday, gives unprecedented
access to crime stats — including everything from break-ins to serious
assaults — that don’t always make the news.
The tool grew out of a task force recommendation on how to modernize
Toronto’s police force and how it collects data on all reported crimes.
The app allows users to search by neighbourhood, category and date.
The first phase of the project
includes major crime (excluding sexual assaults) and homicide stats
from 2004 to present. Traffic collision data will be released soon.
