Social engineering
Social engineering
The application of sociological principles to specific social problems.
—Oxford dictionary
City planners along with left-leaning city politicians are using new
residential condominium projects to push Toronto into becoming a city
of the future, a city that will have far more density, a city of
integrated neighbourhoods where people work, shop and play close to
where they live, a city less reliant on cars and are more reliant on
transit, bicycles and walking and a city of neighbourhoods where all citizens
can find housing, no matter how low their incomes.
There is more. The buildings need to be energy efficient using less
electricity, heat and water. Buildings will be encouraged to generate
their own electricity. Green roofs are the ideal.
Nice life but far too inefficient
In
this planned city, detached houses, and even townhouses, are
overshadowed by high-rise residential towers in five major hubs and by
mixed-use mid-size condo towers lining the major avenues.
The housing of the future. The kids will love it.
There should be more parks and green spaces in the new residential areas.
Families need to be encouraged to move downtown and live in residential
towers. The existing public housing stock needs to be repaired,
replaced and increased.
All of this will take money; money the city doesn't have and money the
federal and provincial governments will not provide. So the condominium
developers and the condo buyers must provide most of the funds needed to
build this city of the future.
One small problem. I am not so sure Canadians, anymore than chickens, will embrace this planned society.
