The Condominium Services Act 2015
Bill 106 introduces The Condominium Services Act 2015 that will licence condominium managers and management providers.
The government will create a new not-for-profit corporation to oversee
the licensing of condominium managers in Ontario. There will be an
appointed board of directors and that board will
appoint its management, a registrar, inspectors, a discipline committee
and an appeals committee.
The authority will licence condo managers. It will also investigate complaints. It should be a very busy corporation.
Disciplinary action against managers may include warning letters, educational courses, or loss of licence.
Decisions of the Discipline Committee and the Appeals Committee will be made available to the public.
What can go wrong?
The main concern is that this new corporation may only accept
complaints about property managers from condominium boards of directors and not
from condo owners or minority directors.
This open letter from a blogger in BC shows why this may become a problem here in Ontario.
