Standing committees

The board is empowered to delegate some responsibilities to different committees.

Standing committees are permanent committees that can be formed by a resolution or by the passing of a by-law. Membership is usually open to interested members but are chaired by a director.

Such committees could include:
Health & safety committee
This committee may check the fire safety equipment, fire doors, garbage chutes on a regular basis, insure the list of residents requiring assistance in case of an evacuation is kept up to date, check the property for safety issues and plan emergency & evacuation procedures.
Audit committee
This committee may audit the financial records every quarter and report their findings to the board.
Recreation committee
This committee may hold a summer BBQ, Christmas and Halloween parties, casino trips, movie nights or card games.
Newsletter
committee
This group may publish a quarterly newsletter and operate a condo website. They could also write and post notices on behalf of the board & the other committees.

Unless the resolution creating the standing committees states otherwise, quorum will consist of a simple majority. The committee needs to appoint a secretary as minutes of the committee meetings need to be taken.

The committees work under the authority of the board and the board can determine who will be appointed to the committee and determine the scope of the committee's duties.
