CYPRESS, Texas - Nathaniel Hurt, the former president of the Cole’s
Crossing Homeowner’s Association in Cypress, is accused of stealing
nearly $10,000 from the HOA.
According to court papers, Hurt had the HOA’s management company
reimburse him directly for nearly $10,000 he claimed to have spent on
eight new security cameras and power cords.
The cameras were for the areas behind the gate at the community center.
But there’s one big problem.
“There's no cameras, and so he's in trouble," a former HOA board member who wanted to remain anonymous told Channel 2.
“We never saw the cameras. The cameras were supposed to go back here
behind the fence and they are still not back there,” he said.
A closer look at the invoices Hurt submitted led the HOA’s management company to believe they were forgeries.
“We called the camera place in Alaska, Tech Pro, and they said that the
invoice that was provided by Nathan, they haven't used that invoice in
over 10 years,” he said.
According to court papers, one Tech Pro employee said, "We did not make the sale."
Another employee stated, ”I can tell you, we did not produce those invoices.”
Hurt had no comment about the theft charge.
“ ... I know this does not look good.”
When investigators asked him about the cameras, Hurt is quoted in the
court papers as saying, “I had them in my inventory ... I was trying to
be reimbursed for what I had paid for the cameras ... I know this does
not look good.”
