A former Sydney property manager will spend at least 12 months in jail
for stealing more than $370,000 from real estate trust accounts to bet
at the TAB.
Mark Kolodynski pleaded guilty in a Parramatta court to taking the
funds during his employment as a strata manager and rental property
manager, after NSW Fair Trading uncovered his "systematic and unlawful
conversion" of trust money for personal use.
The court heard 29-year-old created fictitious expenses to cover his
illegal activity and made regular payments to an account at a
"well-known betting agency", said NSW Minister for Better Regulation
Matt Kean on Wednesday.
Kolodynski was convicted of taking $129,457 from Harcourts Northern
Beaches & Northern Strata, and $243,965 from Bevans Wollongong real
estate agency.
Both companies have since reimbursed the corporations' trust accounts at their own expense.
Kolodynski was sentenced to 18 months in jail with a 12-month non-parole period.
Fair Trading has also disqualified him from holding any real estate credentials for 10 years.
Mr Kean says the prosecution serves as a timely warning to anyone thinking about stealing hard-earned money.
