Excessive noise
When buying a condo unit, look for nearby train tracks, highways, busy
bus routes and aircraft flight paths.
The owners in one large development has serious noise and vibration
problems coming through their closed windows from nearby CP Rail
trains, GO trains and TTC buses and subways.
This Toronto condo development is placed within about 100 meters from
two CPR main line tracks where trains run 24 hours a day, seven
days a
week. The Go Train also travels on the same track. In addition, the TTC
bus terminal is within 100 meters of the south-facing residents.
The noise levels and vibration problems make it appear that the windows
are deficient.
Another problem? Having a car dealership across the street. Car
salesmen, mechanics and customers use the alarm buttons on their keys
to find the cars.
Before buying a condo, check with the municipality for the buildings noise and vibration studies as required by the
Ontario Planning Act and the Ministry of the Environment.
Not all buildings will meet Ontario Planning Act standards for land use
so if you are not careful, you may lose a lot of sleep.
