Be a happy camper

A Happy Camper van

Mr. Bezemer wanted the owners to put the past behind them as these two e-mail exchanges in late 2012 shows.

Jim, we bought one of our units in 2000 on PH level for $148,000 and in 2007 we bought another one for $154,000. Now the price is about $70,000 if we are lucky.

We feel like we got robbed, in broad daylight, in front of everyone. You have to realize, even with all the positive things since then, what Channel has done is still affecting us and it's going to have an effect on us for another six years.

We want justice and we want better protection for our investment.

I am not convinced that the drop in your property values is as much as you claim and I am certainly not convinced that it can be blamed on our history with Mr. Khan.

I think the time has come for you put these things behind you and instead dwell on the positive aspect of our building rather than bringing up the negative past. Constantly telling everyone about low property values becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Letter #2
Hi Jim,
I had an interview with one of the reporters from the Toronto Star and I told her about the aftermath of the Channel Property Management.
Owner

Hello All;
Were one of you interviewed for this particular story? What a shame that the reporter was not told things like:

yes Mr. Khan caused us problems however we are beyond that now.

our finances were a problem but we now have them under control. As a matter of fact, we were able to reduce our fees by over 4% this year!

now that our problems are behind us, our property values are on the rise and the residents feel good about the building again!
In other words, folks, if anyone from the media should ask you questions about our building, please do not give negative information.

Such action only serves to reduce our property values and hurts the wellbeing of our residents. Instead, let's speak positively about this condominium!

Regards
Jim

There is an obvious disconnect here. The owner-activists were financially hit hard by Manzoor Khan and neither the corporate lawyer, the auditor or any of the contractors raised any alarm bells. The owners wanted the Condo Act changed so no other condo owners, or even themselves, would be similarly cheated in the future.

There was also a sense of unease when the administrator was so slow in realizing the magnitude of the fraud that occurred.
