Devices which require a thumbprint of the owners or residents before
entering a multi-storey building isn’t illegal under the Personal Data
Protection Act 2010.
In a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat today, the Ministry of
Communications and Multimedia said this action did not contravene the
Act if the building management had obtained permission from the owners
and residents.
“Devices installed by the management which require thumbprints are one
way to increase the security level in buildings,” the ministry said in
response to a question from Ng Wei Aik (DAP-Tanjong).
