Condominium Authority Tribunal

The Condominium Authority Tribunal is what condo owners have been waiting for since 1977; a cheaper, faster and easier way to settle disputes between condo owners and the boards and the owners.

However, many condo owners may become disappointed. Instead of being a tiger, the Tribunal may be merely a house cat.

The question is on whether the Tribunal will settle only minor issues that equal the type of issues that now go to small claims court or will they also hear and rule on the more serious issues.

Until the regulations are drafted, we will not know.

The Tribunal is not going to solve all condo disputes. It may send the parties off to mediation, conciliation, negotiation or arbitration. None of these are cheap and arbitration, in particular, can be very expensive.
