CHICAGO – A Skokie resident alleges a Park Ridge law firm failed to
investigate assessments on a condo unit on his behalf before he
purchased it.
Amie Hejazi filed a complaint on Nov. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court
against the Law Office of Barbara M. Demos PC, alleging legal
malpractice.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff retained the defendant's
services when she purchased a condo in October 2016. She alleges she
learned in December 2016 that there was a special assessment passed by
the condo board that required a roughly $50,000 payment from her for a
construction/engineering error. She alleges she was forced to incur
expenses totaling $49,472 to satisfy the assessment.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to inquire and investigate
about known, anticipated or pending special assessments and failed to
properly analyze information provided by the seller so as to identify
financial obligations.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against
defendant in the amount of $49,472, as well as court costs. She is
represented by Jeffrey S. Deutschman and Bradley A. Skafish of
Deutschman & Associates PC in Chicago.
