A caveat
Many years ago, when I was involved in local union politics, I found
that both times we elected a “reform” executive, the new executive
engaged in less honourable and ethical behaviors than the board that we replaced.
It is important that you do not get involved trying to replace one
self-serving condo board with one that will be just as self-serving or even
worse.
Before supporting candidates for the board, understand as best as you
can, what their true motivations are for wanting the position and what
policies and direction they plan to follow once they are elected.
Keep watch
Once you elect a new board, don't go back to sleep. Study your budget
statements, attend the AGMs, read the Reserve Fund Studies and the
board meeting minutes.
A board should welcome alert and well-informed owners.
